The Mazda6 quickly rose to become Mazda’s best-selling vehicle after it debuted in 2002. Now six generations later, the vehicle remains a popular favorite among drivers of mid-size vehicles. Performance-wise, the diesel engine is mighty powerful, for a mid-size car at least, with 168 hp and 290 pound-feet of torque. Other engines for the 2021 Mazda6 include the standard base 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 hp and the optional turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 250 hp (and requires premium fuel). Overall, the newest Mazda6 gets around 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, although the new diesel engine is expected to improve on this. As far as drivability goes, this is still the same fun-to-drive vehicle that takes tight turns like a champ and doesn’t take as long to accelerate (6.7 seconds to hit 60mph) as some other midsize cars. It’s also worth noting that all of the 2021 Mazda6 trims now come standard with six-speed automatic transmission, as the manual option was ditched in 2020.
